Complaint Description - Posted 12/16/2009 1:20:57 PM
They repaired a fuel pump in my SUV. Two days later my radiator was leaking to the point where it was completely empty. I called them, and they told me that they would pick the truck up to take a look. They told me I needed to replace the radiator and hoses, and the work would be $300. I noted that it seemed strange that it would break immediately after getting it back, and they said, "these things happen, it's an old truck." (It's a 2001) When I went in to get it back, the radiator repair was listed for $770.09, including over $200 to diagnose the problem (an obvious radiator leak). When I disputed the amount, they said they told me over the phone how much it was going to be. I told them I didn't agree and $300 was all I had. They took $300 that day, and said they would call me to 'figure out' the rest of the bill after I told him I wasn't prepared to pay that amount but I was willing to compromise. They ran my card for $300, which is fine, but they also wrote the card number down, including the code number on the back, without my knowledge. They never contacted me to work out the disputed amount. A month later I found a charge on my card for $470.09. They never contacted me. They never even let me know they were going to run it, they just did it. Because they wrote down the security code from the back of the card, I didn't need to be present for them to get an approval. The CC company told me I was out of luck because I'd already approved the first transaction.

Complaint Summary
They quoted me $300 for vehicle repair over the phone. The invoice was $770.09. I paid the $300, and later they charged the rest without my consent.

Resolution Sought
Refund the $470.09 that I did not agree to pay.

No refund will be issued. As per letter dated on 9/28, the customer paid $300.00 and we collected the balance on 9/06.The customer wants something for nothing. We did needed repairs at a fair price. An unhappy person makes a poor person. He has a safe dependable vehicle.

Initial Response Summary

This has nothing to do with if the repairs done were needed or done correctly. The invoice for $770.00 was far above and beyond what I was quoted for the work. Furthermore, the business had no right to charge me without my consent for what they felt I owed them when they knew the amount was in dispute. To attack me and say that I want 'Something for nothing' is their way of dodging the issue when the business knows very well that what they've done is wrong. They returned a busted vehicle to me in the first place, then lied about how much repairs would be, then, when I disagreed about the charges, charged me the full amount anyway behind my back. They wrote my card number down, including the CVV2 code number on the back, without my knowledge, and phoned in a charge without even sending me a bill or calling me on the phone. Not only did I need to cancel my card after this incident because of their sloppy handling of my information, but I'll never give my credit card to an automotive repair shop again. Life lesson learned.
